Lubbock, TX Day 3 – Well, we’re still in Texas!  We ended up staying in Fredericksburg an extra day so Joe could rest his back which he hurt a few days ago skateboarding and to enjoy the hospitality of Grandma and Papa Z.  Our next destination is Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the Grand Canyon of Texas, up near Amarillo, but it was just too far to make it in one day with a 3 yr old in tow.  Lots of driving today through the familiar Hill country of central Texas and the wind turbine and farm fields of north Texas.   It’s really exciting to finally be on the road after all the darn planning.  Tonight will be our first chance to do some boondocking in a Walmart parking lot, free rent, and we’ll be able to pick up some candles and cake makings for Zoey’s 3rd birthday tomorrow!  Can’t wait to do some hiking and celebrating at the park.   Zoey did great chilling on the long ride today – as long as the snacks, books, and movies kept coming.

The adrenaline rush of the day was the horse trailer completely engulfed in flames on the side of the road – we could feel the intense heat of the flames through the car windows as we rolled by and the grass fire was spreading fast.

After reading Joe’s first couple blog entries I’ve decided to mutiny and provide the updates going forward and put him in charge of pictures & posting the entriesJ.

Hey Karen & Joe, Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Love the pictures. But now it's the 29th, and four days ago you were still in Texas. How is it all going? Are you writing in a diary, taking pictures, etc.? What you've got so far is gold, and you're only at the beginning!
