May 5, 2009 - Palm Springs, CA

I am one with the truckers!  I drove the long stretch on I10 from Arizona into California today and realized that when pulling a trailer it’s not really possible to be speedy….so I just got in the long line of semi’s traveling cross country while cars zipped on by in the left lane.   Joe doesn’t let me drive much but now that we have internet access while on the road that might change.  At least on the highway, that’s the only place I really feel comfortable enough pulling the trailer – no turns or stops.  We love to drive the scenic routes cross country which we did leaving out of Prescott, up and over the mountains but it is also the SLOW way to travel - switchbacks and two lane roads aren’t conducive to speedy travel.  So I think going forward we’ll be splitting time between the super highways so we can actually make good time, but usually a pretty ugly drive, and the more scenic routes that just take your breath away.  It’s springtime in the desert and on our drive today we saw brilliantly colored cacti everywhere.

We made it into Palm Springs where we’re staying the night.  I’m not sure why it is a resort town – it’s hot as heck, sandy and windy.   We’re boon docking on a public street  right down from yet another skate park where Zoey and Joe spent some time this evening.  If I didn’t know better I’d think we were on a skate park road trip!  But Zoey loves to scooter and it gives her a chance to use up some energy in the evening when we’re just passing through a town….the other option is to camp out at Wal-Mart and have her run up and down the aisles in the store J.    Tomorrow we hit the west coast and can’t wait to see the ocean and our friends in Santa Barbara!

*Special note to Josh, Aaron, Raymond & Glen - There's additional pictures of the Palm Springs Skate Park in the photo gallery.   Just click through the photo above to take a look.

It's sounding like you're having the experience of a life time. Wish we were there with you (except the Desert Hot Springs part). Elias went to Maplewood for a visit and loved it. He'd love to be playing with Zoey. Are you driving up US-1? David
